New Albany High School Theatre excels with a 120 year old history! One of the oldest public high school drama departments in the state, the NAHS Theatre Department has won numerous regional and national recognition’s. In 2004, the NAHS THEATRE won the “Outstanding High School Theatre” award given by the International Thespian Society. The following year, the NAHS Thespians were featured in three full pages of the NEW YORK TIMES arts section highlighting high school theatre. The school has been featured regularly as a main stage performing school at the International Thespian Festival (seven appearances) and several NAHS Theatre alumni have gone on to become Broadway and London West End performers. Former director David Longest and the school were awarded the National American History Award by the D.A.R. for the Signature Event production of LEWIS AND CLARK, an original musical written and produced in 2003. In 2007, alumnus Sara King won the Presidential Arts Scholar award and performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. New Albany High School Theatre was the subject of a recent documentary shown on both SHOWTIME and THE MOVIE CHANNEL cable television networks. Josh Dallas, a 1997 NAHS theater alumni, co-starred in the mega-million dollar movie THOR along with Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman, among others. He currently stars as Prince Charming on the ABC’s television show, Once Upon a Time. This summer 7 NAHS Theatre Arts students were featured all over the country in professional productions and musical theatre programs all over the nation.
